Bass Playing

I am a frequent traveller and have stayed in more hotels than I care to remember. It is very rare, even in the best of hotels, that you get to see some truly world class entertainment in a hotel environment. Just the other night I had one of these rare experiences while I was staying in a Ostsee Insel Rügen. The island of Rugen is a beautiful place with lots of great ways to spend your time. Most of these activities are of the relaxing kind however, with lots of natural places to walk in and beaches to sit on. Perhaps that is why it was such an unexpected delight to catch such a fantastic musical act while enjoying a few drinks one night at my hotel.

My other love apart from travel was music, and where ever I travelled in the world I tried to see as much of the local music as I could. Nothing against the Germans, but I was not expecting a musical highlight to be a part of my week long stay in Rugen. I was wrong however as the hotel where I was staying had booked one of the best soul bands that I have ever seen. They were a young band from Berlin with a fantastic female singer and an amazing bass player. I could feel some of those bass notes through my entire body the entire time they played. The fact that they were so young was the only reason I could think of that I had not heard of them, and I am quite sure that they will make a mark for themselves in the future.

They were so good that I even followed them to the wreecher-hof.de – Hotel the next night where they were performing one more show before they head back to Berlin. It really was the icing on what was an amazing trip to Rugen, and one that I definitely want to repeat some time soon. The beaches on Rugen were incredible – but I knew that they would be. The chalk lined cliffs at the Jasmund National Park were fantastic – but I had seen many photos and knew they would be spectacular. The soul band at the hotel however, they were a surprise, and when you are on a holiday – there is nothing better than a surprise.
