English Music Translation

music

Listening to music is a vital part of being human, entertaining us and lifting our spirits like nothing else can.  Popular music is any music that is accessible to the general population, often provided by a form of mass media such as radio or television.  Popular music has undergone a lot of changes throughout history, with new trends, new instruments and new technological developments all having an influence on how music has changed.  Popular music goes back to at least the middle of the 19th century, although even before then some classical music did have a popular following in some sections of society.  The English speaking nations of America and the United Kingdom release a lot of popular music that is distributed all around the world, with lyric sheets often translated into local languages.

Sometimes, English language students or people interested in learning English use the English translation (Englisch Übersetzung) of lyric sheets in order to learn the English lyrics from popular songs.  Musical acts like the Beatles, Wham and Take That are still listened to in many parts of the non-English speaking world – and you can often find people singing along in English to lyrics that have undergone an English translation (Übersetzungsbüro Englisch).  A look at how English and American popular music has changed over the years is very interesting and provides a lot of insight into cultural changes in English speaking nations.

Big band music was a popular form in the early part of the 20th century, as was some jazz and blues material.  As rock and roll music became established in the 1950’s it became the popular form quickly, at first having links to folk music and American blues.  The birth of the synthesizer in the 70’s and 80’s saw the development of synth Pop and Dance music as a popular form, and the development of Hip Hop and contemporary r’n'b grew throughout the 1990’s into the huge industry that it is today.  American and British bands and artists have always had an influence which goes beyond the English speaking world.  Many music fans from all over the globe use the English translations of music lyrics as a way to learn their favourite songs while also learning a bit of the language that they were written in.
